Gabriels – Blame .. I dig it. I’m not a captive in the spare bedroom if it’s where I want to be…
Movies Watched -- Sin Nombre (2009)
96 minute running time … this was another John Farr reco … it was made by that half Japanese guy, Fukusomebody, who made a bunch of True Detective episodes and who was later dogged by sex abuse allegations … anyway this movie was about the trek Guatemalan illegals make through Mexico to get to the US, and Mexican street gangs, and an unlikely and contrived romance … it wasn’t terrible, but it also wasn’t good enough for ME to recommend. The tattooed Mexican street gang guys look pretty terrifying, but I guess that’s the point.
Traveling with el diablo
Movies Watched -- The Double Hour (2009)
In Italian. 96 minute running time. This was a John Farr reco and while it wasn’t bad, it also wasn’t good enough for ME to recommend. Hard one to say anything about without spoiling it … could benefit from a re-watch, putting the pieces together, sort of like Memento. Wasn’t bad though, and that’s an accomplishment these days.
… perhaps the mind stays active, it shuffles the deck, superimposes memories, perceptions, places, faces.
Add Value Add Time
Shilpa Ray … I dig it.
Movies Watched -- Rebecca (1940)
130 minute running time … sort of a weird Hitchcock movie and I think the reason was that David Selznick was involved … might explain the bloated running time … I wasn’t super thrilled with this, but I did LOVE Joan de Havilland, she’s beautiful and young (22 years old I think) and has a graceful quality that comes from good breeding … didn’t think much of tiny Laurence Olivier. I guess many consider this a classic, but I don’t think it’s even among Hitchcock’s best.
We're happy, aren't we? Terribly happy.
Movies Watched -- The Lodger (1927)
91 minute running time … early Hitchcock silent movie … had all the hallmarks of his later movies … nice essay by someone named Rothman in the extras on the Criterion disc… Hitchcock always interested in the high technology of the day, in this case the telegraph, telephone, newspaper printing press, automobile, etc. I also like the class angle in all these early movies.
There’s something about him I can’t stand.
Movies Watched -- The Skin Game (1931)
89 minute running time … early Hitchcock talkie, no subtitles and the audio was so bad I couldn’t understand a word…old money new money conflict, it looked like, but couldn’t really tell.
Not in Nottingham
Theo Lawrence sings Not in Nottingham … I dig it:
I Wouldn't Dream Of It
Joyce Heath sings I Wouldn't Dream Of It … You Were Never Really Here was the best movie I saw in 2018 and it had an amazing soundtrack.
Movies Watched -- Laura (1944)
98 minute running time … Otto Preminger … Gene Tierney, I always liked her cheekbones and angular face… I wasn’t super thrilled with this though I know many consider it a classic. Preminger’s great movie is Angel Face, in my humble opinion.
