I’ve loved Natalie Merchant since I heard her for the first time back in 1987 on In My Tribe (she’s a fellow Gen-Xer) … she’s smart and beautiful and has a great voice and a talent for songwriting … one of the greatest artists of my generation for sure … I just stumbled across this live version of Gun Shy and was reminded of her brilliance:
Perfect Execution
It’s good to grade your daily performance when you day trade for a living. This is my checklist and I assign 20 points to each action; perfect execution is a 100% score.
1) Did you patiently wait for your play to appear? (no rando trades, no FOMO trades, no revenge trades)
2) Did you correctly size your bet? (no oversizing or undersizing)
3) Did you instantly place your initial protective stop once filled? (no tinkering, no pulling stops)
4) Did you correctly manage the open position? (adding, tightening stop)
5) Did you exit all of your position at target? (no premature evacuation, no partial profits taken)
With Me, You and I, and Us
Norma Tanega sings Jubilation … Alone I can’t fly … beautiful song, a real 60s vibe, resonates with all fellow Gen-Xers, I bet:
Movies Watched -- Odd Man Out (1947)
116 minute running time so at least 20 minutes too long … kind of interesting, but got talky and super heavy on morality, allegorical, and filled with Christian symbolism so I wasn’t that thrilled … unusual ending, didn’t see it coming … this was a John Farr reco. This guy bothered to identify all the semi-Biblical characters of Odd Man Out .
“… the film is telling me to give Johnny’s situation a more abstract significance. And, finally, that significance comes through loud and clear when Johnny shouts out the agape verses from 1 Corinthians, and Lukey and the doctor discuss his soul. This is not your usual heist movie.” That’s an understatement!
Mister, give us a penny
Movies Watched -- The Small Back Room (1949)
106 minute running time … David Farrar gorgeous enough to be James Bond, except he has a wooden leg in this picture … somewhat unusual since he drinks and pops pills and grouses … I wasn’t that thrilled with it, but John Farr liked it…
Shut up you little B… (drumshot!)
Movies Watched -- The Phantom Carriage (1921)
107 minute running time which is fairly long for a silent movie … heavy-handed morality tale about the dangers of demon liquor and what it does to marriages and families, etc. Made use of double exposure (see screencap) to good effect … I wasn’t super thrilled with it, but Ingmar Bergman apparently watched it at least a hundred times. This was a John Farr reco.

Tell Her That I'm Gay
Jackie Shane, a transvestite from way back before it was fashionable … I love his/her song, Any Other Way:
