I Don't Need To Yell To Know That I'm The Boss

Molly Burch sings “To The Boys” … love her voice and style … a blue-eyed Millennial (1990) from California, I dig it:

From this interview:

“These past couple years, I’ve gained so much self-confidence, self-empowerment in playing music, and learning how to be a boss and a band leader. Naturally, I’m a very soft-spoken person, and throughout my whole life, people have told me that’s a weakness and don’t take me seriously or see me as someone who’s powerful because of that. That’s where the song started. I wanted to address that part of me that I’ve always seen as a flaw but in recent years have been embracing. Just because I have a quiet speaking voice and sometimes people can’t hear me doesn’t mean I’m not a leader, and that I’m not strong. I really wanted to write a song that empowered women. Being on this tour and seeing any girl (and a lot of times guys, too) sing along to that song is just unreal.”

In Persian … 95 minute running time … I love everything Kiarostami does and this is no exception .. guy needs to find someone to bury him after his commits suicide but that turns out to be not so easy … it’s typically brilliant and original. Green-go, recommended just like every other movie I’ve seen from Kiarostami so far…. John Farr also liked it.

97 minute running time … recommended by a TWTR buddy, I wasn’t thrilled with the 1980s comedy starring a very young John Cusack … generally a National Lampoon feel and had some trippy drug-inspired bits, but I wasn’t interested. Not recommended.

Speaking Howard Cosell…

Ana Gabriela Esmeralda Diaz Molina (Swedish mom, Venezuelan dad) sings Det löser sig … I dig it:

Movies Watched -- Shirin (2008)

In Persian. 92 minute running time. I loved Close-Up so I thought I’d give another Kiarostami movie a try, and John Farr reco’d Shirin, and I’m glad he did since I also LOVED this movie. Kiarostami is a clever guy with interesting ideas… [SPOILERS] he took 100+ stunningly beautiful Iranian actresses and filmed them each for five minutes while giving them emotional cues, then he cobbled it all together pretending that they’re watching a movie based on some ancient Persian poem, and it’s just fascinating and ingenious. This is a green-go recommended movie.

I didn’t realize how beautiful the women are in Iran, but it makes sense because of the Silk Road and all the Occidental / Oriental mixed marriages … just draw-dropping, gorgeous ladies.

Oh Shirin Shirin!

In French. 71 minute running time. Animated. When the French do psychedelic drugs, movies like this one are the result. It made me wonder if the Czech animators also did drugs or just brought the French druggies’ visions to life? This was trippy and not terrible, but also not something I’d recommend, unless you’re interested in druggie movies from the 1960s and 70s. I would not recommend watching this under the influence of anything stronger than ginger ale.

In Mayan or some other ancient language? 138 minute running time so way way too long … I watched the first 20 minutes or so then went to 16x fast forward for the rest … Mel Gibson likes making these ultra-violent warrior spirit / torture pr0n movies, over and over again. Might have been better if not so long, or at least bearable, but this was sensory overload, no thanks, you can give it a miss.
