123 minute running time so 23 minutes too long … tells the story of the rivalry between F1 race drivers Niki Lauda and James Hunt during the 1976 season … I don’t follow F1 and knew nothing about it, but did recognize the name Mario Andretti … F1 seems like a sport for rich wastrels, but the movie wasn’t badly made and I don’t think there have been too many movies made about its history.
James lacked zee discipline
In his interview with Anthony Cave Brown on the traitorous Kim Philby:
LAMB:: You write, as I started to say earlier, I wanted to ask you this: As I read it, I kept trying to follow the path through all this. Did you ever get lost in this thing?
In his interview with James Bovard about government abuses and lying politicians:
LAMB:: But how -- I mean, this is -- well, let me ask it this way. How angry are you?
In his interview with Peter Bergen about his travels within Afghanistan:

that we could predict dumb people would do that would
give us a chance to skim money off them.
Great cover of the old Aretha song, start at 0:40 … Cécile McLorin Salvant … Sullivan Fortner’s show-offy performance on piano a little distracting :
Good song to inhale to…. Gotts Street Park was my #1 artist in the 2021 Spotify Wrap
Joy Crookes, a nothing song but I love her voice…
81 minute running time… Clark Gable and Carole Lombard (not married then) … I was only interested in this one for the Depression-era vibe and bra-less Carole Lombard and the fact that Gable was a card cheat and that gambling was pervasive in American life … modern tech shown off in this movie included the telephone and an indoor shower and taxi cabs … the story was kind of silly love story and not that interesting, I wouldn’t recommend it. That scar on Lombard’s cheek came from a car crash, pre-safety glass.
Card sniping is the only racket I’ve ever known
