Movies Watched -- City of Fear (1959)

79 minute running time … this was Columbia late 1950s noir, playing on fears of “radiation poisoning,” but it’s good, well-made, not great of course, must have been a shoestring budget, but still not a bad story and not badly told, unlike 99% of the movies made today … I enjoyed it and will even give it a green-go since it’s only 79 minutes long. See it if you can….

Movies Watched -- Shockproof (1949)

79 minute running time so a good length… Douglas Sirk directed, Sam Fuller script .. kind of a dumb story about a beautiful ex-con falling for her parole officer (and vice versa), but it was well made and enjoyable … I don’t think it’s good enough to get a coveted green-go rating, but if you like late ‘40s “noir,” you should see it.

I’m a good enough gambler to know when I’ve lost.

Movies Watched -- The Beat That My Heart Skipped (2005)

In French. 107 minute running time but I went to 8x ffwd after 15 minutes because this was just terrible, despite being a Jacques Audiard movie… dumb story of thuggish guy who inexplicably wants to be a classical pianist, I mean how dumb can you get? Apparently a re-make of a movie called “Fingers.” Audiard casts his fave actors Niels Arestrup and Emmanuelle Devos … I see now that Un Prophete was a hit because it was a good story (unlike this one) with a super talented lead (Tahar Rahim)… but this is just crap.
