Movies Watched -- A Place in the Sun (1951)
121 minute running time which means, yes, it was 20 minutes too long … the courtroom scene at the end, which lasts about half an hour, really kills the momentum … but in many ways this is a classic, an unusual movie for the time, based on Teddy Dreiser’s book, “An American Tragedy.” Social class, alienation, ambition are all interesting ideas that are explored … the first two-thirds of the movie are green-go, but I don’t know if I can recommend it from start to finish.

Movies Watched -- A Prophet (2009)
In French. 155 minute running time … normally I would say 155 minutes is at least an hour too long, but this movie was so good that it gets a pass … I loved this … it’s about an Arab kid surviving, and growing up, in a French prison .. the acting was amazing, Tahar Rahim just blew me away, wow, and Niels Arestrup also no slouch… this goes on my Top Movies list, absolutely a green-go. Don’t miss it.
