Movies Watched -- Carol

Added on by C. Maoxian.

Lesbian love story set in the early 1950s. Cate Blanchett plays a rich lady and Mara Rooney, Rooney Mara plays Audrey Hepburn playing a shopgirl. More gay propaganda from Hollywood (Todd Haynes directed), but stylishly done and not badly written. 118 minutes so at least 20 to 30 minutes too long. Had some funny scenes with various dykes leering at Rooney Mara, er, Audrey. Poor Carrie Brownstein / Syd Feldman once again cast as a lesbian in the final scene.  Didn't fast forward so it gets a yellow rating (consider). If you want to see a really good movie about lesbian love, I can recommend Blue Is the Warmest Color, one of my top ten movies from a previous year.

Movies Watched -- Shaun the Sheep

We always liked the Shaun the Sheep cartoons and have them all on DVD somewhere ... the movie is also cute and clever, and at 84 minutes it's just the right length. I can't think of a single Aardman Animations creation that I didn't enjoy. Big props for the Terminator reference, and the BARK and BITE knuckle tattoos (Night of the Hunter). This is a green (go), recommended, and you don't have to watch it with the kids.

Movies Watched -- It Follows

My buddy UglyChart.com recommended this one, and it's very highly rated at Rotten Tomatoes, but I wasn't that thrilled with it. The original conceit -- you can pass on the demon you are given by having sex with someone, thus buying time -- is sort of clever, but that didn't stop me from fast forwarding from 20 minutes in.

It's a W.D. By movie, probably some trust fund kid who loves the "genre" ... he's good at creating an atmosphere of dread, and it has the scary synth score, but blah. Kids, Millennials, whatever, probably love it, thus the skewed RT score, but this old man gives it a yellow (consider) if you like horror, and a red (avoid) if you don't like horror or are indifferent to it.

Just discovered Everything Wrong With It Follows In 12 Minutes Or Less, which made me laugh. "Why not fly to the Philippines?"

Great bod, but killing this girl off in the first five minutes made the whole movie confusing
