Movies Watched -- Bridge of Spies
I didn't hate this, but at 135 minutes it's way way too long, at least 35 minutes too long, and there's something preachy about all these Spielberg movies, it's like he's a frustrated rabbi desperate to impart morality, the sacred truths ... annoying. Had the killer kid with the ugly face from Breaking Bad, whom I was happy to see. I started out giving it a green but then the length and tedious sanctimony of it knocked it down to a yellow (consider).

Movies Watched -- The Big Short
I read the book and enjoyed it, but I wasn't thrilled with the movie. Christian Bale is really good as Asperger's-afflicted Burry, as is Steve Carell as Steve Eisman, but for some reason I couldn't get into it. And it was overly long at 130 minutes, at least 30 minutes too long. Yellow rating. Read the book, it's better.
I look like Brad Pitt except I'm bald and my beard is untrimmed.
Movies Watched -- The Second Mother
In Portuguese. About a nanny / housekeeper in Brazil whose daughter moves in with her (into the Big House) ... interesting from a class perspective, I didn't know Brazil was as stratified as it is (when the daughter goes in Doña Barbara's pool, they have it drained). 114 minutes so at least 15-25 minutes too long. I had my own fraught experience with "the help" as a child (and my son was more or less raised by his ayi in China) ... the actress who plays the nanny is good, she reminds me of the woman in Gloria (which was set in Chile, not Brazil). I did fast forward this but it probably doesn't deserve a red rating ... I'll give it a yellow (consider).

Movies Watched -- 99 Homes
Agent Van Alden is cast as a sheriff / real estate speculator during the last stage of the housing bubble (2007) ... these housing crisis dramas don't hold me, the only one I can recommend is The Queen of Versailles, a *great* documentary. I fast forwarded from twenty minutes in, wasn't interested. 112 minutes, so at least 12 minutes too long. Red rating, avoid.
