Golden Setup on a Dreadful Day

Added on by C. Maoxian.

Even though gold is deeply out of favor and probably heading back below $1,000 an ounce, it doesn't mean it's no good to play from the long side during a trend down day in the broad market.  You can see the jump in GLD as the market fell apart in the morning, but it was that lunchtime zigzag that I love to see that offered the low-risk trade.  On a bad day like Thursday you're going to be keeping an eye on the bonds and gold for a play.

Genesis XIX : 30-38 King James Version

30 And Lot went up out of Zoar, and dwelt in the mountain, and his two daughters with him; for he feared to dwell in Zoar: and he dwelt in a cave, he and his two daughters.

31 And the firstborn said unto the younger, Our father is old, and there is not a man in the earth to come in unto us after the manner of all the earth:

32 Come, let us make our father drink wine, and we will lie with him, that we may preserve seed of our father.

33 And they made their father drink wine that night: and the firstborn went in, and lay with her father; and he perceived not when she lay down, nor when she arose.

34 And it came to pass on the morrow, that the firstborn said unto the younger, Behold, I lay yesternight with my father: let us make him drink wine this night also; and go thou in, and lie with him, that we may preserve seed of our father.

35 And they made their father drink wine that night also: and the younger arose, and lay with him; and he perceived not when she lay down, nor when she arose.

36 Thus were both the daughters of Lot with child by their father.

37 And the first born bare a son, and called his name Moab: the same is the father of the Moabites unto this day.

38 And the younger, she also bare a son, and called his name Benammi: the same is the father of the children of Ammon unto this day.

The things we do for love ... Joe Kennedy tells Nucky he takes the risk out ... "By rigging the game, of course. What else is the stock market good for?"

Just a little room or two can more than do a little man and wife
That's if they're contented with the little things in life

Living on a larger scale would soon entail a lot of care and strife
We could be so happy with the little things in life

A little rain, a little sun, a little work, a little fun
A little time for loving when the day is done

And a little thing that cries for lullabies could make a man and wife
Tell the world how much they love the little things in life

Aimed squarely at my demographic (white, middle-aged male Xers with a British accent) ... had some funny bits (pubs getting "Starbucked") ... innocent pub crawl becomes weird, very weird ... lamenting lost youth ... wanted to like it more than I did ... at least 20 minutes too long. Yellow rating.

Weird one ... not on the RT top 100 list but inexplicably made many top ten lists so I watched it ... low budget ... ridiculous story of some college girls on spring break (lots of sex, drugs & rock and roll, er, hip hop) in St. Petersburg who partner up with a local gangster ... lots of disturbing bits, consistently salacious and occasionally scary ... twist at the end but just absurd. Must have made some ten worst lists as well.

Gold (GLD) Looking Rusty

Candlevolume chart of the GLD (Inception date: 11/18/2004) ... the width of the year shows you how active trading was ... 2014 shaping up to be a "thin" year as price falls and activity drops. 2012 thin, 2013 thinner, 2014 thinnest.  You can see that in the early years of the boom, 2004 05 06 07, there was very little trading in the GLD.  Everyone who purchased after May 2010 and held is underwater.  A lot of latecomers are bagholders now, that's for sure.

They give you the bad news straight away, which makes you dread the next 100+ minutes ... it's 111 minutes so at least 11 minutes too long.  The mother's depression, her mental illness, wasn't explored very well ... you don't really understand why she snapped. Andre as inescapable despot or monster? Saint as predator? I don't know if I buy it ... the mother would need to have very weak social ties for them to hold such sway.  Anyway, I didn't fast forward at all, yellow rating.
