Back in 1999, I wrote a series of articles for a weekly column called "Technically Speaking" at another website. The proprietress of that site and I had an ugly falling out, after which she revoked my access and chat room passwords and, without notice, deleted all of my articles. Her behavior was not only rude but also senseless. Predictably in the months that followed, she set about methodically wrecking everything that was good about the place, disaffecting every other collaborator, and alienating a large audience of good people with her permanently cynical outlook.
In any event, I didn't have any copies of my original work saved, but luckily some affiliated sites which carried the column did archive some copies, which I have restored and reproduced below.
Some of the articles are no longer relevant because they predicted events that have already occurred (or never did occur), but many more of them contain advice which I consider timeless, such as concentrating on strong stocks and avoiding the weak. My early attempts to explain the Lunacy and Mania Indexes are here, as well as my thoughts about gauging public sentiment. I have tried to continue the practice that I started back then of explaining both my trades and my investments.
Finally re-publishing these old columns helps put the pain of that whole episode behind me, and I hope you get some enjoyment out of reading them now, if you didn't get a chance back then. I certainly enjoyed writing them, and it's a special pleasure to "bring them back from the dead."
