Chat Room Open between 8:30 and 9:30 AM, Eastern Time

Notable New Highs

Both CAKE and USNA made all-time highs yesterday. CAKE is a component stock in my Shallow Boomers Index, and USNA is coming out of a nice range.

I can't stress how important it is to review the Unusual Suspects and Notable New Highs and Lows lists every day. I maintain rolling watch lists containing every symbol.

Imagine an Army of Stiffed Old Codgers

Bush Offers Social Security Savers a Call Option, by Michael Lewis:

"That's the whole point of the Bush plan: to force Americans to take responsibility for their retirement years. To reduce the average American's dependency on the federal government and increase his stake in the U.S. economy -- and thus, presumably, in capitalism. But in practice, do you believe that will happen? I don't. Specifically, I don't believe that Americans will ever accept responsibility for their financial decisions."

Baby Name Wizard

Baby Name Wizard

Cool java applet. I didn't realize how unpopular the name Christopher was in the early part of the 20th century. The names Thomas and Priscilla peaked in the 1940s, and Peter peaked in the 1950s (though my siblings were all born in the 1960s).
