Paying the Mortgage with AdsenseGoogle's Profit Probably Surged Sixfold on Advertising Increase:
"Google's AdSense software is turning some blogs into businesses, including pvrblog.com, a site run by Matthew Haughey of Portland, Oregon,
who writes about digital video recorders like those made by TiVo Inc. 'I don't have to lift a finger and it brings in hundreds of dollars' each month,
said Haughey. He said his site, originally designed to share tips with friends, now pays for his mortgage.
Haughey, 32, spends one to two hours a day writing for his blog and said it receives as many as 10,000 visitors each day. When visitors click on Google ads on his site, which are generally for companies selling digital video recorders and software, he receives a share of the revenue. Haughey said he started the project as a writing hobby and would have been glad to make $20 a month. " The key bit there is 10,000 visitors a day. Those of us with a dozen visitors a day are overjoyed to make $20 a month. Posted on February 3, 2005 at 7:35, GMT
Sponsored... and Compromised?Sony Pays $25,000 a Month for LifeHacker Blog, by Kris Oser:
"The deal, which also includes placements on Gizmodo, Gawker's earlier gadget title, will cost Sony in the range of $25,000 a month ...
Although several famous blogs like Dailykos.com and Instapundit pull in up to $20,000 a month from their many advertisers, and marketing on blogs in general
is starting to appear on media buyers' radar, such deals are far from mainstream."

Committing Ecological SuicideChina's Big, Dirty Secret, by Brian Bremner:
"Economic juggernaut, factory of the world, emerging superpower: When it comes to China's ascendancy, the journalistic cliches come fast and furious. And there's
no denying that China's hypergrowth wave is a wondrous thing. But another, darker dimension to China's prosperity exists. The country is fast becoming an ecological
wasteland, home to some of the world's smoggiest cities as well as rampant water shortages, soil erosion, and acid rain."
This is the main reason why we haven't settled in Shanghai. Posted on February 3, 2005 at 7:15, GMT
