MaoXian.com Receives a Kind Mention at Forbes.comInvesting Blogs, by Matt Rand. (Thanks for the attention, Matt.) Forbes' Best of the Web Directory is worth exploring, and I'm not just saying that to kiss ass. Posted on December 14, 2004 at 18:10, GMT
RIMM RampRIMM took off like a shot right before noon... I have no idea why. It would have required very fast fingers to catch it in the low 90's. Update: OK, here's some news: RIM patent ruling partly reversed-NTP lawyer

Update on Crude PositionIt's quite likely that the short position in Crude will be covered today. You can see that there's a typical ABC buy set-up in Crude here, so I expect many players to get long above 41.65... this is one of those cases where I'd like to monkey with Fuzzy's exit, bringing it down to a point that might give me a better price, but I'll restrain myself and let the computer rule the roost.

Chat Room Open from 8AM-9AM, Eastern TimeYou may think that all we talk about during the pre-open chat is genital integrity and kinky sex toys, but it's not true.
Last Friday, regular chatter and professional day trader "priceswilltell" pointed out that PLMO was breaking out of a coil as well as a "cup and handle," which was a great and timely call.
Yesterday, regular chatter and professional day trader "roger" pointed out that OVTI was a good short candidate, which was indeed the case. So it's not just fun and games, there is some very informative talk as well. Come join us! Posted on December 14, 2004 at 8:35, GMT
Chart of the Day -- Student Loan Corp., Monthly Chart
The Student Loan Corporation originates, manages and services student loans through a trust agreement with Citibank, N.A. (CBNA),
which are guaranteed under the Federal Family Education Loan (FFEL) Program, authorized by the United States Department of Education
under the Federal Higher Education Act of 1965, as amended. The Company also holds student loans that are not insured under the Act, primarily CitiAssist Loans.
STU hit a new all-time high yesterday. You'll recall that I recently featured Sallie Mae... originating government-guaranteed loans is like having a license to print money.

Roundup of China Aviation Oil News VForeigners suspected -- FT
"The Communist party's flagship People's Daily newspaper yesterday cited two issues as particularly 'worthy of attention' - the actions of overseas
financial institutions in the trading that led to CAO's losses and the dominant role of foreigners in the company's own trading team."
Ah, they're pulling out the tried and true trick of blaming "foreigners." Singapore weighs up the implications -- FT
"As long ago as October, Singapore oil traders suspected what investors in China Aviation Oil (Singapore) now know to be painfully true:
the Chinese jet fuel importer was losing big money on derivatives ... 'The market was speculating the losses might be US$50m-US$100m -
then it comes out at half a billion dollars.'
[Singapore's oil trading] industry is also not transparent. Contracts are traded over the counter between companies and brokers rather than through an exchange. While each company can limit its exposure to any individual counter-party, there is no way for the market to keep track of a single group's overall position." Posted on December 14, 2004 at 7:35, GMT
One More Reason to Love GoogleGoogle Is Adding Major Libraries to Its Database, by John Markoff:
"The agreements to be announced today will allow Google to publish the full text of only those library books old enough to no longer be under copyright.
For copyrighted works, Google would scan in the entire text, but make only short excerpts available online ... The Google plan calls for making the
library materials available as part of Google's regular Web service, which currently has an estimated eight billion Web pages in its database and
tens of millions of users a day. As with the other information on its service, Google will sell advertising to generate revenue from its library material."
