Friday Comments on Fitness, Fatness, and Flatulence

It's Friday afternoon and I'm sure everyone has had a profitable last few days, the tragic election defeat we all suffered earlier this week notwithstanding, so I'll ramble on here a bit.

When you get older, your metabolism slows down and you get more sedentary, and it becomes tougher to keep fit. My routine now is to lift weights three times a week and do cardio five times a week (plus a little on the weekend). For cardio I either row 10,000 meters (40 minutes) and bike 15 minutes or bike 10 miles (20 minutes) and row 2,500 meters (10 minutes).

I always feel great after exercising, but I feel even better tucking into a large bowl of pork rinds accompanied by several pints of real ale... preferably within minutes of finishing the workout.

As the Bald Spot Grows

A snapshot from the Chairman's desktop as he calls it a day. I'm off to the gym to do battle with the gut. Have a good day, and never fear, the gratuitous cute chick pic will be posted later.

Well Said, Maureen

The Red Zone, by Maureen Dowd:

"The president got re-elected by dividing the country along fault lines of fear, intolerance, ignorance and religious rule. He doesn't want to heal rifts; he wants to bring any riffraff who disagree to heel.

W. ran a jihad in America so he can fight one in Iraq - drawing a devoted flock of evangelicals, or 'values voters,' as they call themselves, to the polls by opposing abortion, suffocating stem cell research and supporting a constitutional amendment against gay marriage.

Mr. Bush, whose administration drummed up fake evidence to trick us into war with Iraq, sticking our troops in an immoral position with no exit strategy, won on 'moral issues.'"

There Oughta Be a Law

The secret pensions of fat-cat executives, by Liz Weston:

"If a perk costs the company less than $50,000 annually or makes up less than 25% of a compensation package, SEC regulations don't require disclosure. Investor advocates say companies are becoming increasingly skilled at using vague SEC regulations to hide and downplay compensation details, making it tough to discern who gets what."

The Top .000000153846145%

Forbes List of China's Richest 200:

"We have expanded our list to 200 names from 100 in 2003. To make the top 100 this year required personal wealth of at least $141 million, against $100 million last year."
