Tone was good today... there was a little wiggle into the lunch hour, but no biggie. Hope you caught MAGS, which gave a lovely spot, and which the scanner had picked up in time for my 10AM watch list screenshot. Good night, guys.

Stephen Hunter on the original Terminator movie:

"This high-tech, gun-crazy nightmare is calculated to drive pointy-heads, secular humanists, wimp-liberals and other quiche-eaters apoplectic with rage, while yanking in millions at the box office."

Stephen Hunter on Dirty Harry Callahan:

"Harry and his big gun stood for conservative virtue, strength, absolutism in a period of moral relativism; he was the old nobleman whose skill at arms vanquishes a treacherous enemy, who, in the first film, was a psychotic wearing a peace button...."

Now that everybody and his grandma is yacking about $50 per barrel crude, it makes sense that price would come in a bit. This should give a boost to stocks, especially given the generally rotten market sentiment that I've discussed over the last couple of weeks.

HotTrend was featured briefly in this week's Barron's:

"Hottrend monitors stocks traded on Nasdaq and NYSE, and establishes a profile for each stock every minute during the trading day. It tracks price, volume, trade count, money flow, price velocity, bid-ask spread, bid-ask update rate, and average block size. The formulae are exponentially weighted so that recent activity has greater weight."

Now that you know how it's done, go build your own.

Looks like there were over 2500 people who bought into the WSOP No-Limit Hold'em World Championship at $10,000 a pop. That's quite a prize pool and means the winner will take away $5 million. I only know one guy there (a former Morgan Stanley trader); he actually did quite well on Day 1.

I liked this bit from a CardPlayer article:

"About two-thirds of the players are playing in their first ever World Series... [some] actually brought how-to poker books to the tables with them...."
