Anyone paying attention to the Argentine economy would have gotten nervous back in late 1998. But if you had been shorting Argentine stocks throughout 1999 to capitalize on the trouble, you would have had to ride out the early 2000 surge to all time highs before the reckoning finally came. Taking these kind of macro bets, which so many hedge funds attempt to do, is a tricky business. |
